- With Musk forming a new party, there is likely to be a major shift, especially among moderate Republicans who have been seeking meaningful change.

In a major move, tech billionaire Elon Musk has announced a new political party in the United States of America called the “America Party.” This was announced by Musk on July 4th, when the United States was celebrating its Independence Day.
This move also comes at a time when Musk’s differences with Trump are at an all-time high. It also follows Musk’s exit from DOGE. Elon Musk had joined Trump last year, openly supporting his presidential campaign. Musk went on to spend almost \$200 million on Trump’s campaign. His presence alongside Trump also helped the former President secure significant victories in swing states, including the highly contested Pennsylvania.
However, the bonhomie between Musk and Trump did not last long, as differences began to emerge between the two. The first major disagreement came on the issue of tariffs. On Liberation Day (April 1st), Musk had called for tariffs against various countries, which he later withdrew. Musk opposed the tariffs because they targeted China, where significant Tesla factories are located.
Another major disagreement came in the form of the spending bill proposed by Trump. The bill had very limited subsidies for EVs, while Musk had demanded more support. More importantly, Musk was also against several subsidies that he claimed would only increase the already soaring U.S. deficit. When President Trump refused to consider Musk’s proposals, tensions between the two escalated. Both engaged in verbal spats, with Musk calling Trump a liar and associating him with the Epstein files.
All these differences led Musk to form a new political party. Musk said that Democrats and Republicans are just two sides of the same coin and that the ‘America Party’ would work for the real interests of the country and focus on lowering the U.S. deficit.
Though Trump has called Musk’s move “completely ridiculous,” considering Musk’s wealth, influence, and millions of social media followers, his political venture could significantly impact the American political landscape. This would be historic, as America has traditionally had a two-party system. With Musk forming a new party, there is likely to be a major shift, especially among moderate Republicans who have been seeking meaningful change. Since Trump has not delivered such changes, there’s a possibility that these moderates may shift their allegiance to Musk’s party.
However, the number of Democrats shifting to Musk may be lower, and only those disillusioned with their party may consider moving to Musk’s camp. Musk may contest the midterm elections scheduled for 2026. While it’s hard to expect a revolutionary change in such a short time, if Musk continues with his political journey, 2029 could be his year.
