Mohali’s IISER develops the coldest refrigerator using cryogenic technology, a great leap for Quantum computing

Scientists at the Indian Institute of Science Education and Research (IISER), Mohali, have used cryogenic technology to achieve a low temperature of 10 milliKelvin or -272.99 degrees Celsius, slightly toasty than the extremely cold world of space where the temperature is as low as 2 milliKelvin (-273.148 degrees Celsius). The temperature achieved by the institute is almost 27,000 times lower than that of a home refrigerator and only 0.01 degrees more than the minimum possible temperature that the laws of physics allow. Technically the cryogenic device which is in the spotlight is called a dilution refrigerator. The device showcases a technological advancement for India’s indigenisation. Over 10 million Australians ordered into snap-lockdowns as Corona virus cases rises across country

Similar measures were imposed in Sydney, Perth and Darwin in recent days. Brisbane, surrounding coastal regions and the small northern city of Townsville are also subject to the latest order. The lockdown came after an unvaccinated hospital worker spent up to 10 days travelling around Queensland while infectious. Perth went in for a four-day snap lockdown after a local cluster grew to three cases. The largest outbreak was in Sydney, where 150 people tested positive for COVID-19 since mid-June, with the city’s residents now under stay-at-home orders for two weeks. In all locked-down areas, people are genera...
