NGO files petition in SC to stop widening of roads that reach Indo-China border, instead tells army to airlift!

Senior Advocate of the Supreme Court of India and the founder of the Human Rights Law Network (HRLN) Colin Gonsalves has filed a petition to stop the widening of roads that connect the Char Dham in Uttarakhand as it will cause adverse impact in the hilly region resulting from the felling of trees. The Char Dham road network also reaches the Indo-China border and is used by the Indian army. Supporting Gonsalves’ stand is an alleged NGO called “Citizens For Green Doon”. They are represented by lawyers Colin Gonzales and Mohammad Aftab, who had filed a petition in the Supreme Court to stop the construction of roads on the Indo-China border in Uttarakhand, citing the environmental impact. Instead, they have asked that the “Indian Forces can use air route in war”. The three-judge bench o...

Challenges to India’s Democracy and Sovereignty in a Globalized World

Crossroads of nationalism, trans-nationalism lingering with the quest for identity in ethnic, religious, cultural and racial spheres have become the critical stimulants in our day to day discourse.India was the greatest beneficiary of this age of globalization as our economic progress and standard of living exponentially increased compared to the Nehruvian socialist license-quota Raj. But in recent times the post modern and woke culture that have emerged in the west is challenging the foundational values of the Bharatiya nature. Bharat, in this clash of civilizational values and conflicting state of affairs in the democratic world, needs to reinvigorate its cultural ethos in order to set an example to the world.Vacillating viewpoints both supporting and opposing the rise of a new Indi...

How deliberate Historical Fallacies Created Myths About J&K’s Accession to India

History, in India, is a strange subject and historians even stranger. The subject is reviled by students who perceive it to be dull and boring. This, in effect, encourages rote learning of the subject and bereft of any meaningful discussions–so very essential to acquire historical knowledge. And historians, especially the “Eminent Leftist Historians” of India are well aware of this fact. Yet they have, by design, let history-learning remain that way in schools and colleges. Strange as it may sound, but then this dull and boring ‘history-teaching-and-learning’ devoid of any discussions and factual analysis suits the agenda of our “Eminent Historians”. How? Well, boring it may be, yet history provides a sneak preview of what has happened in our past, helps guide actions in the presen...

How PM Modi Modified the Direction of Indian Foreign Policy

Abstract With 2014 elections bringing about a new government at Delhi led by Prime minister Narendra Modi was groundbreaking in many respects, as for the first time in 40 years a party in India received an absolute majority and the elections were fought on a presidential-style where leadership was one of the essential factors that determined the outcome of the results in favour of Narendra Modi. PM Modi was more known for his administrative reforms & economic management as the CM of Gujarat, but little was known about his abilities in managing foreign policy. But to everyone’s surprise PM Modi has taken up a keen interest in foreign affairs and has left his mark in shaping the Indian foreign policy in a new direction.
