In an October gazette, the President declared that as “no citizen should be discriminated against in the eyes of the law” he was establishing a task force “to study the concept of a common law”. The task force which was reconstituted in early November, consists of academics and lawyers belonging to the Sinhala, Tamil and Muslim communities. The Chinese Communist Party (CCP) has passed a resolution which seeks to cement Xi Jinping's status in its political history. The resolution, dubbed as 'historic' by the state media, is only the third of its kind since the founding of the party. The first was passed by Mao Zedong in 1945 and the second by Deng Xiaoping in 1981. The resolution passed on Thursday at the sixth plenary session aims to establish Mr Xi as an equal to party founder Mao Zedong and his successor Deng Xiaoping. Chinese authorities in Drakgo county in China occupied Tibet’s traditional Kham province have ordered Tibetans to demolish a Tibetan Buddhist school after falsely alleging that the school has “violated” the dubious land use law, reports Tibet Times.  Gedhen Nangten School, under the administration of Drakgo’s Ganden Rabten Namgyalling Monastery, was reportedly demolished by the school officials on 31 October 2021 after they received the official decree. The decree accused the school of violating land use law when it only applied to local residential buildings, says the report. Extreme weather events triggered by climate change cost Asia, especially India, China and Japan billions of dollars annually, which threatens sustainable development, DownToEarth reports quoting a World Meteorological Organization (WMO) report. Events such as tropical cyclones, floods and drought cause losses of at least $408 billion on an average every year in these three countries.
